Tutorial on Prokofieff Symphony no. 5 #trumpet #orchestra #music #Prokofiev # Symphony #5 Be thoughtful about balancing and know when is best to lead and shine. Many time in this music, its more about team effort to create something special than going full blown solo mode. Notice harmonic tension in some of the chromatics and enjoy!!

The problem with these Pajeeet bags is that the end quickly starts leaking.
My university puts on a music department showcase every year and we opened with this on the balcony. It caught everyone off guard. It was a great opener!
technical mastery of a physical instrument to express a composition that defies all musical preconceptions. The illusion of effortless !
Are you using a G? I find as I go down in my scales my tongue gets slower. Shouldn't I be practicing tonguing over my full range?
What a privilege to hear this performance by world class trumpeterTom Hooten and the fabulous USC Thornton Winds. Nobody plays this concerto better! Feeling blessed.
Hello Tom. I just ordered an Embosure. It hasn't come yet. But I'm confused looking at this video based on what you're saying and demonstrating from about 5:25 to about 5:30. There you are slurring where it looks like you are manipulating your face/mouth to slur, especially ascending up the scale. (Don't know how else to describe your facial movements). Are you saying that is the way to slur up & down; that's the way to do it; because it sounds great! If not, can you describe the proper way to ascend? Looks like you are doing the same thing from about 6:00 to 6:10. Thanks!
Getting mine delivered in a few hours!
never disappoints ! wonderment
GORGEOUS. Bravo!
Cultivating sensitivity and awareness in our chops is powerful stuff--this is fantastic practical pedagogy. The Embosure and these videos are great resources. Bravo and thank you, Tom!
Thanks!!!
Is chat same as comments????
I can feel the tip of my tongue vibrating…does this mean my tongue is too far forward? Thank you 🙏
Noticed in your first demo you nose breathed (Caruso style) and in the second demo you breathed thru the corners. That would make for 2 different exercises I think. Thoughts? Ps. My Embosure just arrived, so yes, I have a vested interest now! Thanks!
Hello. Busted! Haha. I would and usually prefer breathing through the nose. Thanks for the question.
The Rusch bags were of much better quality. The Indian company that makes your bags really needs to improve quality. I had a good laugh yesterday followed by a cry. The plastic end literally popped out of the end. Now there is just a hole there that is hard to seal up.
your students are soooooooooo fortunate !
thank you !
a poultice for my soul
2nd viewing and I will return soon if not sooner
Thank you so much for sharing the knowledge . I will do this daily ! I'm saving for the embousure !
Sigh ........... thanks to all that made this possible . Soooooooo beautiful ! I am grateful for Artistry at this level !
Magnificent ! So energized, rhythmic, clear, resonant, and free !
Great contrast in dynamics and I love the small amount of vibrato you put on the leading tone right before the recapitulation of the theme. Well done!
thank you for this . I will audit it again & again . Poultice for my soul ......... music . Thank You !

Conrad Jones told me during a lesson that he was told by one of his teachers that "if you don't want to get tired while playing, don't play tired". I interpret that to mean that you should never practice to the point that the lips get stiff and you have to blow harder to get the notes out. Along that line, I have noticed that when I first warm up with lip buzzing, sometimes they just don't want to buzz. This seems to be associated with practicing too much the day before. So my question is, under optimal practice conditions, in order to gain endurance, should my lips ever get stiff? Or should I take a break while my lips are still responding well? If that were the case, I think I would be playing about 10 short sessions a day rather than 2 or 3 longer ones. I am just curious what your advice is, Tom. Thanks so much.
Wow!
I love TH but to describe Cris Martin as robotic is either extremely ignorant or bias at the very least.
Guy's a fucking idiot, who seems determined to prove his ignorance.
🎺❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
After lib buzzing this is the first exercise I do to set my embouchure and get in touch with my vibrating reed. The Embosure allows me to feel and hear that vibration in a way that is obscured by the back pressure of the mouthpiece and horn. I can concentrate on getting an efficient, focused vibration.
ソリストのフートゥンはもちろん、バンド、指揮者全て最高レベル。
This was great! Thank you.
Tom, is the Tatu mute the model 1 or model 2 straight mute? Thanks! Dan from Vermont
Good question. Not totally sure. I got one of each and I can’t remember which is which. They are both very nice.
@@ThomasHooten OK. Thanks for getting back to me
this is so much better than the insta lives! especially with the screenshare and facecam.
Hello from Brazil!
Gah. The sound was not good. I’ll work on it

Ok. Thank you for taking the time to comment.
Great performance! Glad I found this. Thanks for posting.
That dude is iced and dripped out
That has to be the most amazing sound I've ever heard... It was clean and even across insane leaps - just incredible!
Love the Vesuvius quotations that Ticheli has included in this movement. A real highlight for me.
Fresh, beautiful playing by all involved. The stillness is remarkable.❤
An original mark his way of playing the trumpet Bravoo!!
Truly Magnificent ! Thanks to the entire ensemble for this performance !
Great resource, thanks!
I feel like my own playing improves every time I watch you perform.
Wow this is Fantastic. The Musicality phrasing phenomenal. Line shaping 🎺🔥🎺
Lebron of the trumpet
You make it sound easy!!
The idea of sustaining the energy through the dotted eighth and sixteenth is genius. I immediately applied it to the getchell etude I was working on and it makes all the difference!
